Tiny Team, Primary Art Supply and Connect Savannah proudly welcome legendary British indie-music icon HOLLY GOLIGHTLY (of THEE HEADCOATEES) and her new, two-piece band THE BROKEOFFS for their Savannah debut.

The Brokeoffs features Lawyer Dave, a one-man band in his own right, playing bottleneck guitar along with various homemade, foot-controlled percussion instruments.

If you don’t know Holly by name, you may have heard her on the soundtrack for the Jim Jarmusch film BROKEN FLOWERS, or as a guest on albums by bands such as Rocket from The Crypt and The White Stripes.

This very special solo acoustic show will feature Steve’s original material, plus songs from his soon-to-be-released album TOWNES, on which he pays tribute to his hero and mentor, the late, great Texas music icon Townes Van Zandt.

We’re awfully sorry about this, and are working at getting Joe back to town on his own sometime soon!

However, the good news is that we’ve been able to talk another legendary singer-songwriter to fill in for Joe.

LARRY-JON WILSON is a true icon of outlaw country who ran with TOWNES VAN ZANDT, BILLY JOE SHAVER, GUY CLARK, KRIS KRISTOFERSSON, DAVID ALLAN COE, JOHN PRINE and WAYLON JENNINGS back in the day.

He’s an old friend of Steve Earle’s, and an amazing guitarist with a low, deep voice and a poet’s lyrical sense.

It’s our distinct pleasure to add him to this show on Steve’s TOWNES VAN ZANDT TRIBUTE TOUR – especially given Larry-Jon’s close personal ties with Townes.

He’s also a familiar face at large, outdoor music and comedy festivals, and shares bills with the likes of Louis C.K., Jon Stewart, David Cross and The Upright Citizens Brigade.

You likely know him from his recurring and guest roles in films like THE WRESTLER with Mickey Rourke, POOTIE TANG with Chris Rock, and ROAD TRIP with, well, nobody cooler than Todd. We’re gonna turn Savannah Smiles into an old-school, pre-punk Go-Go scene with a rare appearance by NYC’s legendary Elder Statesmen of the original garage-rock resurgence, THE FLESHTONES.

Perhaps the only band who played CBGB’s in 1976 and has never split up or taken a hiatus, these guys are THE REAL DEAL. They tour the world to a devoted following of diehard fans who can’t get enough of their insanely catchy Farfisa organ and fuzz-guitar fueled psychedelic R&B.

Frontman PETER ZAREMBA is still remembered fondly as the host of MTV’s landmark mid-’80s show THE CUTTING EDGE, and great groups like THE WOGGLES, THE FORTY-FIVES, THE WHITE STRIPES, THE RACONTEURS and others have found inspiration in Fleshtones live shows and albums for decades.

They have opened for (and toured with) REM, THE HOODOO GURUS, THE CRAMPS, THE POLICE, CHUCK BERRY, THE NEW YORK DOLLS, THE STROKES, JAMES BROWN, IGGY & THE STOOGES, BO DIDDLEY and more, plus they’re finally getting their due as forefathers of the modern garage-rock scene with a recently published band biography and a full-length documentary hitting international film fests.

An Evening of Oustanding Guitar Rock – featuring RICHARD LLOYD & THE SUFI-MONKEY TRIO with special guests THE SUPREME COURT, 8 pm, Monday, August 4th at Savannah Smiles near the corner of Bay and Montgomery Streets.

Both guitarist Richard Lloyd and drummer BILLY FICCA are punk legends who founded the pioneering group TELEVISION in the mid-1970s along with TOM VERLAINE and RICHARD HELL (later of THE VOIDOIDS). They were the very first rock band to play CBGB’s, and helped put NYC’s iconic Bowery Bar on the map.

Ficca would later record and tour with THE WAITRESSES and THE WASHINGTON SQUARES, while Lloyd contributed spectacular, instantly recognizable guitar leads to beloved albums by power-pop wunderkind MATTHEW SWEET (such as GIRLFRIEND and 100% FUN), art-rock collective THE GOLDEN PALOMINOS, and the reformed lineup of Cleveland’s ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS (with THE DEAD BOYS’ CHEETAH CHROME and PERE UBU’S DAVID THOMAS).

Richard’s new tour and band find him playing rarely-heard solo material from albums he released starting in 1978 up through his brand-new disc THE RADIANT MONKEY – as well as re-tooled versions of tunes originally recorded by Television. It’s his first major solo tour in over two decades, and a very rare opportunity to catch his famously agile and inventive lead and rhythm guitar playing up close.

Opening the show will be THE SUPREME COURT, a critically beloved cult band featuring the rapier Southern wit and sartorial splendor of SWIMMING POOL Q’S frontman JEFF CALDER, and infamous avant-garde guitarist GLENN PHILLIPS, who was COL. BRUCE HAMPTON’S original lead guitarist in the HAMPTON GREASE BAND before recording a series of groundbreaking instrumental shred/fusion records in the ’70s through the ’90s and collaborating with psychedelic axeman HENRY KAISER.

Glenn’s speed, dexterity and inventiveness as far as guitar tone goes is simply breathtaking. He’s as mind-blowing as any superstar jazz fusion or shred metal player you can name, but completely in his own hypnotic bag. The Supreme Court’s sound is a quirky, irrepressible blend of MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD-style blues, CAPTAIN BEEFHEART-esque dada grooves and surreal, Southern Gothic set pieces. That show features the super-fantastic Canadian jangle-pop group THE GOLDEN DOGS, along with California’s THE WILLOWZ (as heard on the soundtrack to Michel Gondry’s ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND), opening for trendsetting Detroit dance-rockers ELECTRIC SIX (”Danger! High Voltage”), who are touring in support of their forthcoming album I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being The Master.
